Easy Homemade Chicken Cordon Bleu

Ingredients:
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Deli Ham (1/2 pound for every four breasts)
Swiss Cheese (2 slices for each breast)
3-4 Eggs
Panco/Bread Crumbs
Flour (not pictured)
Seasonings: Salt, Pepper, whatever else you like.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Step one: Cut chicken breasts in half and open like a book then gently pound flat.
Be careful not to cut or pound too many holes in your chicken.

Step Two: Season inside of chicken with salt and pepper (I use white pepper because husband doesn't like black pepper and he can't see white pepper)

Step Three: Pile the 2 slices of cheese and as much ham as you like in the center of the chicken

Step Four: Fold chicken in half then "sew" the sides of the chicken together with toothpicks

Step Five: Prepare your bread crumbs - season as desired

Step Six:  Prepare your assembly line.  Chicken, flour, eggs, and bread crumbs.

Step Seven:  Sprinkle your chicken with flour.

Step Eight:  Drench your floured chicken in eggs

Step Nine:  Coat your chicken in the seasoned bread crumbs.

Step Ten:  Place your coated chicken on a broiler pan (or a cookie sheet with a cooling rack on it) - this will help the chicken cook evenly on the top and bottom.  Bake for 45-60 minutes at 375 degrees or until the breading is golden brown and chicken is no longer pink.

Step Eleven:  Once the chicken is done cooking, take the toothpicks out of the chicken.

Step Twelve:  Enjoy!

I apologize for not having the recipe for the sauce that typically goes on top of the chicken.  I've always just enjoyed the Cordon Bleu by itself.

  1. I LOVE making these. I always thought it would be so hard but it wasn't. MY favorite has been to use the italian bradcrumbs. Gives it just a little yummier flavor. Love the pics and this post:)
